Vema team brings world class expertise in geochemistry, catalytic hydrogen production in rock and field operations

Contact Us

Vema is the developer and operator of a disruptive renewable hydrogen technology, Engineered Mineral Hydrogen, to provide cheap, abundant and clean hydrogen.

Vema Hydrogen is on a mission to unlock thousands of years of affordable hydrogen by accelerating naturally occurring chemical reactions in the subsurface. Its novel approach was highlighted in the well-regarded Nature Geoscience and is now entering commercial demonstrations, beginning in the Western United States. Vema’s technological breakthrough, Engineered Mineral Hydrogen, de-risks production through precise location targeting and controlled manufacturing, making hydrogen a viable pathway for clean energy production.

If white hydrogen is like digging for gold, Vema’s approach is like alchemy. They don’t rely on exploration luck but rather create their own luck and will almost always strike ‘white gold.’ It’s a game-changer for what is poised to be the most important discovery in energy in our lifetime.

Paving a new scalable pathway for clean energy, Vema is pioneering Engineered Mineral Hydrogen to supply clean hydrogen that can provide low-carbon energy for centuries to come.

Problem

Maintaining global warming below 2 °C, as stipulated in the Paris Agreement, will require a complete overhaul of the global energy system. Hydrogen is considered to be a key component of the decarbonization strategy for sectors across transportation, aviation, shipping and electricity. Currently about 96% of hydrogen production comes from the steam reforming of coal or natural gas, and green hydrogen methods are too expensive and energy-intensive to produce. To meet low-carbon energy demand, hydrogen supply will need to be abundant, affordable and clean.

Solution

Vema’s innovative approach to engineered hydrogen offers an alternative solution to existing hydrogen production. Through the use of a catalyst and controlling parameters, such as flowrate and temperature, Vema optimises naturally occurring reactions beneath the Earth’s surface to produce sustainable hydrogen. With a process that is reliable and environmentally friendly, Vema is producing high purity hydrogen and a low levelized cost of hydrogen (LCOH) – unlocking a new era of scalable, cost-competitive, clean energy.
